2009 Malmberg Scholarship for Study in Sweden Guidelines The Malmberg Scholarship will be awarded to financially assist up to one year of proposed academic study in Sweden.

Background: The Malmberg Scholarship and Fellowship Program is supported by earnings from the endowment established by a generous contribution to the American Swedish Institute (ASI) from Cornelia Malmberg. Cornelia Malmberg was a lifelong educator who spent time abroad teaching. A native of Winthrop, Minnesota, Cornelia Malmberg took great interest in the work of ASI after her retirement. Her particular areas of interest were educating youth about Sweden, particularly the Swedish language.

Annual Timeline:
Summer-Fall: Scholarship and Fellowship publicized
September 1: Applications accepted
November 15: Application deadline
Nov.- Dec.: Applications reviewed and finalists interviewed by phone
January 15: Recipients of Scholarship and Fellowship announced
April or May: Malmberg Banquet at ASI to honor recipients

The project schedule must fall between the dates of June 1, 2009, and August 31, 2010. Project duration depends on the individual proposal (see application).

Eligibility: Applicants for the Malmberg Scholarship for Study in Sweden must be a U.S. resident who is either (a) a student enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited college or university, or (b) a qualified scholar engaged in study or research whose work can be enhanced by study in Sweden.

Awards: Scholarships are usually granted for a full academic year term (nine months), but can also be awarded for study periods of shorter duration. Both the Malmberg Scholarship and the Malmberg Fellowship (see separate description) are awarded at an annual presentation and banquet event to honor present and past recipients and featuring a notable honored speaker. The awards are administered by the American Swedish Institute.

Yayasan Tun Husein Onn Malaysia Scholarship

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia Foundation invites all Malaysian citizen to apply for scholarship to pursue full time education at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), academic session 2008/2009. Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia Foundation offers convertible scholarship for students who have been accepted to continue their studies in UTHM starting from the 2008/2009 academic session.

Application Requirements:

Academic Qualification

• Applicants must pass the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) examination with credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language, and;
• For matriculation leavers and diploma holders, applicants must pass the matriculation/ diploma examinations with CGPA of 3.3 and above, or;
• For STPM leavers, applicants must at least obtained 2As and 1B and a pass in the General Paper.

General Requirements

• Only first year student for the academic session 2008/2009 are qualified to apply;
• Applicants are not over 21 years old on the day of application;
• Applicants must have the qualities and abilities as individuals and leaders, dynamic, independent and active in co-curricular activities;
• Applicants must be accepted as full-time students Universiti Tun Hussein Onn;
• Applicants must be able to speak and write well in both Bahasa Malaysia and English language;
• All applications are subject to the terms and condition of the Foundation.

The Scholarship:

The scholarship offered is RM8,000.00 per annum, covering from three (3) to four (4) years of studies.
